Re: Letter of Support for Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Application
To Whom It May Concern:
It is my understanding the City of Palm Desert is applying for funds through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program.
The City is seeking funds to build and improve bicycle lanes throughout the City per the Coachella Valley Association of Government’s Active Transportation Plan. This grant would establish
citywide bicycle connectivity with the CV Link Trail system and provide planning for local neighborhood access to schools. Successful implementation of this project would make Palm
Desert a safer and more multimodal community, help reduce our vehicle emissions, improve public health, and provide more opportunity for residents and visitors to get around without
getting into a car.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) has been providing law enforcement services in Palm Desert since the city’s incorporation in 1973. RCSD contracts for approximately 80
sworn deputy positions to serve over 51,000 residents. RCSD also provides two school resource officers (SROs) who work closely with school officials, campus security, teachers and
students to help create a safe and secure learning environment at each campus.
We fully support the City’s grant application for the betterment of this community.
Sincerely,
Chris Willison
