Provide a complete description of the project(s), location(s) impacted, and work completed during
the grant term.
The City of Palm Desert contracted with FIND Food Bank, the only Food Recovery Organization
(FRO) in the Coachella Valley with enough capacity to provide edible food recovery services to all
identified Tier 1 and Tier 2 businesses. Services included contract management, food rescue
management (i.e. logistics, recipts, possible tax deductions, food rescue transportation), training,
volunteer program management, quarterly report (in lbs.) of each generator, and food rescue
mobile app.
Additionally, the City of Palm Desert partnered with the EcoHero Show to bring fun environmental
education to Palm Desert students, K through 5th grade, at Carter, Lincoln, and Reagan
elementary public schools. These assemblies provided education on composting, proper sorting,
and food waste reduction through a series of sing -along songs and interactive games. A total of
five shows were presented to over 1,800 students.The City of Palm Desert also contracts with
HF&H, LLC, for solid waste & recycling consulting services. As part of their contract, they
provided guidance to the City on SB 1383 related issues and ensured compliance through
review of monthly diversion rate tracking based on reports provided from our franchised hauler.
