The City of Palm Desert is proposing to make improvements to the Mid Valley drainage system infrastructure, located southwest of the intersections of Cook Street with Gerald Ford Drive and Interstate 10. South of, and adjacent to Interstate 10, is the Mid Valley Basin where the City proposes to regrade and widen the Channel. A new Underground Storm Drain will be installed within the Gerald Ford Drive right -of- way. The final component is a proposed basin on approximately four acres of property located between the Channel and Gerald Ford. The proposed project has been divided into two phases. Phase 1 of the proposed project will be focused on the Mid Valley Basin, while the new basin and underground storm drain are set for implementation in Phase 2. The City has prepared an Initial Study (IS) and MND to evaluate the project impacts and has concluded the project will not have any significant negative impacts on the environment upon implementation of the recommended mitigation measures. A copy of the Initial Study and all other material which constitutes the record of proceedings upon which the City based its decision to adopt this MND may be obtained at the City’s website at https://www.palmdesert.gov/build-develop/projects-in-development). The CEQA-required public review period of the Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration begins September 8, 2026 and ends on October 7, 2026 (30+days ending on a standard business day).
