The applicant is proposing to open a business in the corner unit, east of Vons. The proposal is to install three (3) illuminated reverse channel letter signs reading "Doug Arango's". Two of the signs will be 12 inch letters and the third will be 9 inch. The copy face will be dark brown. This style of sign has been used quite effectively in other instances. We have no concern with the size or style of the signs and will recommend approval of same. We do need to be convinced of the necessity of the third sign (i.e. : the second north facing sign appears redundant). RECOMMENDATION: That the commission review Case No. 1681 SA and grant approval subject to the applicant delineating the location of the third sign and its necessity being affirmed. The applicant wishes to install, on the exterior of the glass, a vinyl identification sign reading "Xcessories, etc.". This will be the only business sign. It is proposed to be primarily white with black accent and a red stripe. The size of the sign complies with the code limit. The applicant now seeks approval of a smaller white neon sign to be installed facing President's Plaza parking lot. REO IDATICN: That the commission approve the request for an exposed white neon sign for RON'S facing President's parking lot. SS/db AGENDA ITEM NO.: IV-A-7 DATE: December 12, 1989 ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMISSION CASE NO.: 1679 SA APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): BIGALOW'S RESTAURANT, 73-071 Highway 111, Palm Desert, CA 92260 NATURE OF PROOECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Approval of business identification sign and graphic display LOCATION: 73-671 Highway 111 ZONE: Cl The applicant occupies a corner unit in the 111 Center and has frontage facing Highway 111. The request is to install a wall mounted painted wood sign 4 feet by 5 feet. The business has 37 feet of frontage and hence the sign complies with the size limit. The sign requested has the word "Bigalow's" across the bottom in approximately 10 inch letters. The remainder of the sign is a graphic of a hamburger and a pair of laced shoes. The hamburger speaks "you called?" The basic sign is green, black background and there are splashes of red and orange in the hamburger.
