The commissioners indicated their concern with the layout and how it related to the building. The location on the wall was acceptable as was the size but the colors and design need to be toned down and the materials need to be considered. They did not approve of the sign being internally illuminated, it should be lighted from the ground or roof (indirect). Regional Manager, Ron Gate of Merrill Lynch Realty, felt that the commission should try to find a way to approve the sign as presented and urged the commission to consider the fact that it was a difficult center from which to operate a successful business; therefore, signs which may not be within the strict usual architectural requirements of the city should be allowed.
