I. The meeting was called to order at 2:03 p.m. after a one hour study session.

Moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by Commissioner Cook, to approve the
minutes for the meeting of February 28, 1984, subject to the correct spelling of
Hahn on page 3. Carried 3-0-1. (Commissioner Martin abstained)
II. Moved by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Holden, to approve the
following cases by minute motion.
l. CASE NO: 922 SA
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): IMPERIAL SIGN COMPANY, 46-120
Calhoun, Indio, CA 92201 - Deep Canyon Inn.
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Change in hotel sign
program.
LOCATION: 74-470 Abronia Trail
ZONE: R-3 (4)
Approval is subject to the deletion of the lantern.
2. CASE NO: 856 SA (Amendment ��l)
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): COME'T SIGNS, 611 Rock Springs Road,
Escondido, CA 92025.
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGH"f: Additional sign at
Cinema 7, Palm Desert Town Center.
LOCATION: Northwest facing wall of theatres.
ZONE: P.C. (3), S.P.
(Note: Commissioner Holden was opposed.)

3. CASE NO: 182 C
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): EGS METRO & C.G. DUNHAM CO., 73-
241 Highway 111, Suite lA, Palm Desert, CA 92260.
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Final approval of
landscape plan and color board.
LOCATION: North side of El Paseo at rear of Jensen's, west of
Larkspur.
ZONE: C-1, S.P.
Approved with the addition of the street trees as revised.
4. CASE NO: 209 C
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): H.B. FOOD SERVICES,
INCORPORATED, 17821 East 17th Street, Suite 295, Tustin, CA 92680.
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Final approval of plans
for a 6438 square foot restaurant.
LOCATION: North side of Frontage Road between Portola and San Luis
Rey.
ZONE: C-1, S.P.
Approval is subject to the following conditions:
a. That an engineered lighting plan, indicating lighting levels
throughout the parking area surface, be submitted.
b. The signs have not been approved at this time.
c. Restudy the landscape plan to redirect the applicant toward fewer
deciduous trees and the substitution of eucalyptus trees with
anothertree.
5. CASE NO: 256 MF
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): SILVER SPUR ASSOCIATES, Larry
Spicer, President, 47-200 Mariposa Drive, Palm Desert, CA 92260.
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Final approval of
architectural plans for thirty-nine dwellings.
LOCATION: South end of Ironwood Country Club.
ZONE: PR-7
Approval is subject to the following conditions:
a. That final landscape plans be reviewed and approved prior to
issuance of building permit.
b. That lots 32 and 33, subject to the Hillside Planned Residential
Ordinance, receive precise plan approval prior to issuance of
building permit.
c. That the final map be recorded before any building permits be
issued.
The minute motion on these cases was approved unanimously 4-0.

III. CASES:
A. Final Drawings:
1. CASE NO: 921 SA
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): ARROWHEAD PACIFIC SAVINGS
BANK, P.O. Box 1641, Palm Desert, CA 92261.
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: New sign program at
savings bank.
LOCATION: Southeast corner Highway 111 and Portola.
ZONE: C-1, S.P.
Mr. Smith indicated to commission that the wall mounted sign is to be
brown plastic letters with a 3/4 inch gold trim cap, and that on each of
the two freestanding signs, the applicant wished to install new faces.
The face will have a brown background with an arrowhead logo repeated
three times. The arrowhead colors to be red, white and turquoise. At
the bottom of the sign will be 5 inch high copy (yellow).
Commission discussed various color combinations.
The representative for the applicant, MR. JOHN TARCA, handed the
commissioners a business card with the proposed colors.
Commission expressed the wish to see a colored rendering of the sign
face.
Motion by Commissioner Cook, second by Commissioner Holden, to
approve the proposed wall sign in the 2418 brown as shown in the plans
and that the new faces for the freestanding signs be returned to the
applicant for the submission of a colored plan of the sign with the
suggestion that the applicant do another alternate color scheme using a
more subtle color combination. Carried unanimously 4-0.

V. ADJOURNMENT:
Motion by Commissioner Martin, second by Commissioner Cook, to adjourn the
meeting. Motion carried unanimously 4-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:22 p.m.
