The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. after a one hour study session. Members Present: Ron Gregory, Chairman Al Cook Rick Holden Bernie Leung Members Absent: Charlie Martin Staff Present: Ray Diaz Steve Smith Donna Gomez It was moved by Commissioner Leung, seconded by Commissioner Gregory to approve the minutes of the April 9, 1985 meeting as written. Carried 3-1 Commissioner Cook abstaining. It was moved by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Holden to approve the minutes of May 14, 1985 as amended. Carried 2-2 Commissioners' Gregory and Leung abstaining. II. Moved by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner Holden to approve the following cases by minute motion. 4-0 (Commissioner Gregory abstaining from case 256C) 1. CASE NO: 249 C APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): HOTEL PROPERTIES (Continental Inn), 4350 Executive Drive, San Diego, CA 92121; G.E. HOLGUIN & ASSOC., P.O. Box 13152, Tucson, AZ 85732. NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Final approval of landscaping plans for a 129 room hotel on 2.96 acres. LOCATION: South side of Highway 111, approximately 285 feet east of Shadow Hills Road. Orange Street, Suite B, Orange, CA 92666. NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Approval of a trash compactor. LOCATION: Palm Desert Town Center Sizzler ZONE: PC (3) S.P. Subject to landscape plan being approved by staff prior to building permit issuance. 9. CASE NO: 253 C APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): BERNIE SOLOMON, 74-700 Highway 111, Palm Desert, CA 92260. NATURE OF PR07ECTjAPPROVAL SOUGHT: Preliminary plan approval of 2 industrial buildings. LOCATION: West side Corporate Way, south of Hovley Lane ZONE: S.I. S.P. Subject to the following: 1. That the trees be upsized and additional landscaping materials be provided. III. CASES: A. Final Drawings: None B. Preliminary Plans: 1. CASE NO: 258 C APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): FRANK GOODMAN, 77-900 Avenue of States, Palm Desert, CA 92260. NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Request for exterior remodel. LOCATION: 44-850 San Pablo ZONE: Commercial Mr. Diaz pointed out the concerns of staff. The commission was concerned with the roof mounted equipment not being adequately screened and the building appearing choppy. Commissioner Leung felt the overall building needed to be restudied and made into a full mass. Commissioner Cook indicated that the proposed materials do not improve the appearance of the building as they should. It was moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by Commissioner Cook to return this case to the applicant for restudy of mass forms and material selection. Carried 4-0 2. CASE NO: 257 C APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): VALLEY CHRISTIAN ASSEMBLY, P.O. Box 3074, Palm Desert, CA 92260. NATURE OF PRO�ECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Preliminary approval for remodel addition and parking lot for church. 3 �rr` ti'w� MINUTES ARCHITECTURAL COMMISSION MAY 28, 1985 LOCATION: 73-979 Fred Waring Drive Commissioner Gregory indicated that he would like to see additional landscaping in the parking area and around the building. Commissioner Holden indicated that the parking would need to be screened with shrubs or a wall 42 or 36" high. The commission requested details of the fascia and roof materials to be used. This information will be required on the working drawings. It was moved by Commissioner Leung, seconded by Commissioner Holden to grant preliminary approval subject to the following conditions: l. Additional landscaping material to be used in parking area and around exterior of building and on streets. 2. Complete renovation of exterior structure. Carried 4-0 IV. DISCUSSION ITEMS: None V.
