LOCATION: 72-E�55 Highway 111 , Suite B-9 at south entry from El Paseo ZONE: PC (3) 5.P. Mr. Smith reviewed the case and indicated that commissian haci granted approval subject to the sign being individual letters. The applicant did not wish to use individual letters. therefore, the applicant wished to present his case. Mr. Tim Unruh, owner, explained that most of the signs in the area were metal framed cans and that only one sign was individual channel letters. He thought that the proposed sign was more conducive to the building and other signs in the area. 3 � � MIN�TES ARCHITECTURAL COMMISSI�i FEBRUARY 25, 1986 Chairman Gregory questi�nPd the size and description of the propase� sign. Mr. Unruh noted that the sign was a plexiglass, internall,y iliumin�ted burgundy and grey sign that is to be 24" X 10' . Chairm�n Gregor,v felt that as long as the sign was small enough and of similar appearance to other signs in the area, he would be for approval . He did feel that architecturally the sign shoul� he sm�iter in proportion to the building. Commissioner Go�k inhiC�ted that most. signs in that area were 18 or 12 inches in height. Commissioner Martin feit that having a sign on each face and the signs being internally illuminate� was acceptablP. He thought that the size could be r�duced without damaging th� visi�ility of the sian. Chairman Gregory suggested that the sign be a m�ximum �f 8 teet in length and keep the 24" height. The applicant was c�ncerned with crowding the letters. C�mmissioner Drury suggested that t�e �pplicant delete the l�go to provide additional room for the lettering. Ccammissioner McCre� suctgested that the applicant enlarge the word "UniquP" �nd have "propert,v services" in sm�ller letters. Moved by Commissioner Coc�k, seconded by C�mmissioner DrurY to approve thP sign in lieu of the previous approval subject to tr�e following �:onditions. 1 . That the si�e be limited ta 2' X 8' . 2. ZONE: AHDPR-22 Mr. Smith indicated that commission found the landscape plan acceptable at study session. Mr. Dennis Martin, applicant, submitted a variegated tile sample that he was proposing to use. He also submitted a landscape plan for the median which he indicated tied-in with his pro,ject and the Rroject across the street and would require low maintenance. Chairman Gregory suggested that a drip irrigation systern be used to keep the median low maintenance. Commissioner prury stated that the pianting materials should be kept low for good traffic visibility. Chairman Gregory thought that the date palm trees should be replaced with another type of palm, preferabl_y a washingtonia palm. Moved by Commissioner Martin, seconded by Commissioner McCrea to approve the landscape plen and roof tile material subject to the fnllowing conditions. 1 . That a drip irrigation plan be approved by staff. 2. That the darkest tile be used a maximum of 2Q%. 5. CASE N0: 1101 SA APPLICANT tAND ADDRESS): GLENDALE FEDERAL, 401 N. This item was continued. 5 � � MINUTES ARCHITECTURAL COMMISSION FEBRUARY 25, 1986 IV. DISCUSSION 1TEMS: 1. NEWMAN CENTER Mr. Martin gave an overview of the proposed pro,ject, indicatinq that planning commission had required that the parkin� be located in the front of the property. He asked for final approval of p'lans so that they could be submitted for plan check. Moved by Commissioner Cook, seconded by Commissioner McCrea to approve sub,ject to a final landscape plan being approved prior to building permit issuance. Carried 4-0- 1 {Commissioner Martin abstaininq) . Z. WARD PROPERTY - PARKVIEW 8 FAIRHAVEN Mr. Martin subrnitted an elevation plan noting the knee braced overhangs on 25 one story units. He was requesting suggestions and/or comments from the commission. Chairman Gregory indicated that there would need to be a landscape plan submitted and asked if Mr. Martin couid get the colar tile that he had drawn. Commissioner Cook pointed out that he preferred the tile overhangs to awnings. Mr. Martin indicated that he could get any color made up.
