NATURE OF PRO.IECT/APPROVAI SOU(iHT: Reconsideration of west facing sign request. LOCATION: Paim Desert Town Center. Mr. Smith explained that the applicant had previous approval of a west facing sign to be placed at the same height as the north facing sign. App) icant is now requesting the west facing sign to be piaced on the fascia. Mr. Cart►pinero, General Manager of Bonwit Teiler, indicated that the reason for wanting the s9gn on the fascia was to get exposure from Highway 111 and Town Center Way. He noted that the proposed sign would be the same slze as the north facing sign. He advised that the north facing sign could be moved up to the fascia if necessary. Commissioner Martin questioned if the sign would be visible from Highway 111 if it were placed on the wali . Comrnissioner Drury stated that she would like to drive by and see what the difference in visibility would be if the sign were piaced on the fascia opposed to the wail . It was moved by Cortmissioner Martin, seconded by Commissioner McCrea to continue this case so that the commission may look at the proposed site. Chairman Gregory iiked the concept and indicated he would want to see the same landscape treatment o the newiy proposed build9ng that was used on the previously approved buiiding. Commissioner Martin was concerned with the parking lot layout. Commissioner Cook was opposed to the parking lot's being separate. He thought they shouid tie-in together. Commission agreed with the concept of combining the site into a unified devetopment proposai . 2. GENERAL TELEPHONE Mr. Smith explained that General Telephone was requesting approval of the landscape plan which is to screen the block wall which will surround the parking lot. Commissioner Cook was concerned with the storage of materials that would exceed the height of the wall . Mr. Smith indicated that code states as long as the materials do not exceed the height of the wail they can be stored, which means if they do exceed the height of the wali they will have to be removed. Mr. Bernie Leung noted that the chain link gate would remain. Commissioner Cook recommended that brown wooden slats be placed in the chain link gate area and paint the wall a light brown color.
