ARCHITF7CI[JRAL Q'MISSIi
RRY 23, 1988
Commissioner Druzy was concerned about the awning going the full
width of the building, and too many signs (total of 3) being located
in a small area. She asked what wuld happen if new businesses in
the back came to the CaYmission for sign appraval and there was no
space for the signs. It was noted that the back offices are not
entitled to signage space, only the ones fronting E1 Paseo, these
offices pay higher rent for the frontage space.
Mr. Smith reported that the anly way the back offices could obtain
sign space was if the awner/manager reserved sign space.
Mr. Smith suggested that the awner install a 3 square foot pedestrian
sign at a 90 degree arigle.
It was moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by CaTmissioner
McCrea to apprave the sign with the follawing changes:
1. 'I'hat "Palm Springs Reservation Inc." be centered over the east
section of the building (approximately 6 feet fran the corner).
2. That the address may be printed in the middle.
3. That the logo may be added to the Newporter Travel portion of
the sign.

Mr. Smith advised Comnission that it had come to his attentiari that
the sign installed for Eagleson's does rot meet the appraved color
sche►e.
Camission met at the site and concluded that the color installed
was rlot the approved color. The Catmission also noted that the
oolor installed was very close to the color appraved for the Southern
California Edison sign on the adjacent unit. In addition, the
approved orange #2564 has not been used by any of the te.nants on the
center.
Accordingly, it was moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by

The Comnissioners were conr.erned about the follcywing items: The
proposed 6 foot walkways being too narrow, awning, traffic
circulation and drop off specifically, and the lack of articulation
an the El Paseo elevation.
The architect stated that a loading space can be put where the
existing handicapped parking is located. The handicapped will be
mved to arother location.
Cairnan Gregory suggested that the gap between the tw buildirigs be
filled in. He suggested that the architect contact the awner of the
other building.
Cannissioner Dnary suggested that the proposed white for the parapet
be changed to anrther tyne of white. Also mentioned was that the
oolor of the building needed to be toned dawri.
Chainnan Gregory replied that additional landscaping is needed
for the back building. He suggested six palm trees be planted in

Ms. Maggie McDonald aaner of the office caYtplex where Our Place Restaurant
and Gifts for Golfers are located attended the meeting.
Ms. McDonald indicated that her understandirig is that the Camission
reviewed and approved the awnings in question. She, as the building
awner, also reviewed and approved the awnings. Unfortunately, what has
been installed is not what she approved.
It was stated that business operators are supposed to get the approval of
the awners to put up awnings and signs. It is also their responsibility
to advise the awner of changes.
Ms. McDonald stated that she wants to establish a stanra, rzed consistency
for awnirxs and signs on her center.
Nfr. Smith reported that the banner at Gifts for Golfers is a temporaxy
banner and was approved for 30 days. After the 30 days is up, the sign
will came cm.
The Catmission thought that the idea of standardizing the consistency of
awnirigs and signs was a good idea.
