She asked what w�uld happen if new businesses in the back came to the CaYmission for sign appraval and there was no space for the signs. It was noted that the back offices are not entitled to signage space, only the ones fronting E1 Paseo, these offices pay higher rent for the frontage space. Mr. Smith reported that the anly way the back offices could obtain sign space was if the awner/manager reserved sign space. Mr. Smith suggested that the awner install a 3 square foot pedestrian sign at a 90 degree arigle. It was moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by CaTmissioner McCrea to apprave the sign with the follawing changes: 1. 'I'hat "Palm Springs Reservation Inc." be centered over the east section of the building (approximately 6 feet fran the corner). 2. That the address may be printed in the middle. 3. Other concerns of the Cam�ission involved the front wall area and curbs. Accordingly, it was moved by Commissioner McCrea, seconded by Cannissioner Druzy to continue this case to allaw for resubmittal. Catmissioner Gregory suggested that the plans be revised by the architect and then resubmitted to the Catmission for review. It was moved by Commissioner Sullivan, seconded by Camtissioner Drury to continue this case. Carried 5-0 4. I�OQ�TI�i• Ahmanson Center. 7�• PC 3 Mr. Smith advised Comnission that it had come to his attentiari that the sign installed for Eagleson's does r�ot meet the appraved color sche�►e. Cam�ission met at the site and concluded that the color installed was rlot the approved color. The Catmission also noted that the oolor installed was very close to the color appraved for the Southern California Edison sign on the adjacent unit. In addition, the approved orange #2564 has not been used by any of the te.nants on the center. Accordingly, it was moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by Catmissioner Drury to apprave the color of the sign as installed, and to replace the approved orange colors, Acropoly 206 and Plexiglas 2564, with the orange Plexiglas 2119. Mr. Smith reported that the existing sign is approximately 15 ft. long and 8-10 in. high, which makes is approx:i.mately 10-12 sq. ft., and the proposed sign is 18 ft. long, 18 in. high, which makes it approximately 27 sq. ft. The business is entitled to a total of 25 sq. ft. of sign. Mr. Smith indicated that the wr�rd "cocktail" could be deleted and the signs would then ca�ply with the size limit. C�aLi.ssioners DruYy and Gregory were opposed to painting the sign on the parapet. They suggested som� other type of sign be utilized. Commissioners Holden and Sullivan were opposed to the sign being placed on the parapet. CaYmissioner McCrea is not concerned about the sign being placed on the parapet, but is opposed to paintirig the sign on the parapet. It was moved by Calmissioner DruYy, seconded by Caimissioner McGYea to approve the co�cept of a sign beirig placed on the parapet, but denying the sign being painted o� the parapet. The architect stated that a loading space can be put where the existing handicapped parking is located. The handicapped will be m�ved to ar�other location. C�airn�an Gregory suggested that the gap between the tw� buildirigs be filled in. He suggested that the architect contact the awner of the other building. Cannissioner Dnary suggested that the proposed white for the parapet be changed to anr�ther tyne of white. Also mentioned was that the oolor of the building needed to be toned dawri. Chainnan Gregory replied that additional landscaping is needed for the back building. He suggested six palm trees be planted in this area. Commissioner Sullivan would like to see more variation in the elevati� of the facade of the buildirigs. Chairman Gregory suggested that the parapet facing the parki.ng lot looking south be lawered a few feet, and parts of the parapet that people are rx�t able to see be left as is. Ccamissio�er Druzy suggested that the plans be reviewed again after the changes have been made. The applicant agreed to cut back the E1 Paseo elevation 5 ft. on each end to create roan for additional landscaping. ORAL (X�T�iINICATI�S: Ms. Maggie McDonald aaner of the office caYtplex where Our Place Restaurant and Gifts for Golfers are located attended the meeting. Ms. McDonald indicated that her understandirig is that the Cam�ission reviewed and approved the awnings in question. She, as the building awner, also reviewed and approved the awnings. Unfortunately, what has been installed is not what she approved. It was stated that business operators are supposed to get the approval of the awners to put up awnings and signs. It is also their responsibility to advise the awner of changes. Ms. McDonald stated that she wants to establish a stanr�a,�r��zed consistency for awnirx�s and signs on her center. Nfr. Smith reported that the banner at Gifts for Golfers is a temporaxy banner and was approved for 30 days. After the 30 days is up, the sign will came c�m.
