I. The meeting was called to order at 12:00 pm.

It was moved by Commissioner Drury, seconded by Commissioner Holden to approve
the minutes of October 25, 1988, with the amendment on page 4, case 5 - Motion
to deny changed to continue. Carried 3-0-1 (Commissioner McCrea abstained).
II. Moved by Co m_issicner Holden, seconded by Drury to approve
the followirxg cases by minute motion. Carried 4-0.
1. CASE NO: PP 88-15
APPLICANT (AND ADDFES,S): CAPRI INTERNATIONAL, 249 S. Robertson
Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90211.
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Preliminary Approval of
elevations for commercial complex.
LOCATICN: South side of E1 Paseo between Lupine and Sage Lane.
ZONE: C-1
Condition that the preliminary approval was only given on the
building elevation plans.

1. CASE NO: PP 87-17
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): MAZAN CONSTRUCTION, 72-757 Fred Waring
Drive, Palm Desert, CA 92260.
NATURE OF PRUJWr/APPROVAL SOMM: Approval of Final landscape
plans.
LOCATION: South side of El Paseo between Ocotillo and Sage.
ZONE: C-1
It was moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by Commissioner Drury
to approve this case subject to the condition that the landscaping be
more consistent with the preliminary plans that were approved (i.e.
more trees in the back area). Staff can approve revisions. Carried
4-0.
2. CASE NO: 1503 SA
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): SIGNS BY BULL, 83-480 Avenue 45, Indio,
CA 92201.
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Sign Approval.
LOCATION: 72-990 El Paseo, Palm Desert.
ZONEā¢ PC-3
Commission was concerned about the clear acrylic cocktail glass on
the sign.
The applicant informed the commission that the cocktail glass symbol
was a part of the company's logo and was a necessary part of the
sign design per the client's stipulations. The color of the sign
and the interior of the building are similar.
Commissioner Sullivan asked how the sign would be illuminated. The
sign will not be illuminated. He was opposed to the color (burgundy
and gold) of the sign.

It was moved by Ccm dssioner McCrea, seconded by Commissioner Drury
to approve this case with the condition that the cocktail glass be
removed from the sign. The applicant may appeal to city council if
they so choose. Carried 3-1 (Commissioner Sullivan opposed).
B. Preliminary Plans:
1. CASE NO: PP 88-16
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): URI KOHEN, 74-874 Joni Drive #8, Palm
Desert, CA 92260.
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Preliminary Approval of
elevations and landscape plan for industrial building.
LOCATION: 74-849 Joni Drive.
ZONE: S.I.
The north elevation shows three roll-up doors. Also proposed is a
stucco masonry block wall and 15 gallon trees.
Ccnudssioner Sullivan was concerned about there being no over-hangs
(solar protection) shown on the east elevation.
It was moved by 0cmmissioner McCrea, seconded by ComLissioner Drury
to grant preliminary approval. Carried 3-1 (Commissioner Sullivan
opposed).

1. CASE NO: MINOR CONSTRUCTION
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): EDITH FERRELL, 72-821 Hedgehog, Palm
Desert, CA 92260.
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Exception to street side yard
wall setback requirements.
LOCATION: 72-821 Hedgehog.
ZONE: R-1
Commissioner Holden went on record that the proposed fence may be an
unsafe condition because of the lack of visibility of oncoming
traffic.

It was moved by Commissioner Drury, seconded by Commissioner McCrea
to grant approval with the condition that additional desert
landscaping be added to the parkway area. Staff can approve the
plans if they are appropriate. Revised landscape plans and a
permit needed to be submitted. Carried 4-0.
V. ORAL CX244JNICATIONS:
Home Savings & Loan submitted the new mosiac art piece to commission for
comments. The commission liked the art piece.
Commissioner Drury noted that she like the art piece, but did not feel it
was appropriate for the building.
Commissioner McCrea noted that the palm trees did not look like palm
trees.
