CASE NO.: 1673 SA APPLICANT' (AMID ADDRESS): IMPERIAL SIGN (for Maurie Symonds), 46-120 Calhoun Street, Indio, CA 92201; MAURIE SYMONDS, 73-640 El Paseo, Palm Desert, CA 92260 NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Approval of internally illuminated business identification sign LOCATION: 73-640 El Paseo ZONE: Cl Commission denied request for the following reasons: i) Installation of the additional sign will not enhance the overall appearance of the subject property ii) Installation of the additional sign will not further the goal of "minimizing visual pollution" iii) The business is presently identified by a very effective awning sign which could be illuminated in a desirable fashion Commission felt it would be more appropriate to light the existing awning rather than add an additional illuminated can sign. Commission also considered that by eliminating the existing awning sign, the proposed sign may not be inappropriate. Carried 2-0. Can<nission informed applicant that he may appeal this decision to the City Council within 15 days. 2. CASE NO.. 1644 SA APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): RON NILES, 73-703 Highway 111, Palm Desert, CA 92260 NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGM: Exposed white neon sign of Presidents Plaza parking lot side of building LOCATION: 73-703 Highway 111 ZONE: Cl Commission continued this case to December 27, 1989 meeting. Carried 2-0. 4 MINUTES ARCHITECTURAL COMMISSION DECEMER 12, 1989 3. CASE NO. : 1679 SA APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): BIGALOW'S RESTAURANT, 73-071 Highway 111, Palm Desert, Ca 92260 NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Approval of business identification sign and graphic display LOCATION: 73-671 Highway 111 ZONE: C-1 Applicant was not present. Chairman Gregory felt the painted sign was very unique, and would have to be well executed if it was to be approved. Ccm-nission felt that the applicant should consider a carved wood type of sign.
