Preliminary approval given on architectural plans with the condition that more attention is paid in getting some type of relief over the windows and at the entry way. CASES: 1. CASE NO.. 1656 SA APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): MARIONS, 73-241 Highway 111, Suite 3E, Palm Desert, CA 92260 NATURE OF PROJEWAPPROVAL SOUGHT: Approval of exterior light fixture to existing awning LOCATION: South side of Highway 111, west of Panache ZONE: Cl S.P. Cam issioner Holden thought it would be fine with some type of ground mounted flood lighting. Staff felt that the awning should be lit from inside the awning; however, applicant, Marion Keiser, noted that the awning was non-translucent. Ms. Keiser noted that she could use a much smaller fluorescent tube. It did not need to be the same size of the awning. Commissioner Drury asked haw the electrical outlets would be used. Chairman Gregory asked applicant to bring back plans showing how this light fixture would be lit and where the electrical equipment would be. Chairman Gregory added that he would prefer that the awning be lit from inside the awning by cutting out the letters and putting in a translucent material. It was moved by Commissioner Drury, seconded by Cammssioner Holden, to continue the case until applicant provides actual plans on how light fixture will be installed. 2. CASE NO.: PP 89-15 APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): HARVEY MILLER, 74-818 Joni Drive, Palm Desert, CA 92260 NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: Approval of landscaping and monument sign 4 NiIIVI�PFS AR(IIITECIURAL OCn4ISSION NNEMBER 29, 1989 LOCATION: Southeast of Cook Street and Sheryl Avenue Z.CNE: S.I. Chairman Gregory noted that the choice of trees on the east end of the proj ect should be evergreen trees and the shrubs closest to the street will be overwhelmed with the ground cover. He added that in the effort to conserve water, the ground cover presented would not be feasible. It was moved by Commissioner Drury, seconded by Chairman Gregory, to continue this case until the applicant returns with the approved plans from the Coachella Valley Water District with their changes. 3. CASE NO.: 1666 SA APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): D&A SHADE AND AWNING CO. (for Moonbeams), 500 Calle San Raphael, Suite C3, Palm Springs, CA 92264 NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL Ste: Approval of awning with signage LOCATION: 73-130 El Paseo ZCNE' C1 It was moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by Commissioner Drury to approve the request. 4. CASE NO.: 1662 SA APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): PALMS TO PINES CANVAS (for Tutti Gusti), Pinyon Pines, Box 69, Mountain Center, CA 92361 NATURE OF PRiWECT/APPROVAL SO( U: Request to enclose patio with retractable drapery LOCATION: S.W. corner of Highway 111 and Highway 74 ZONE: PC (3) S.P. Piero, owner of Tutti Gusti, was present and reiterated many of the items he had covered previously with canwLssion. He needs to enclose his patio during winter season in order that his heaters work effectively. Due to the limited indoor seating, the patio dining is critical to is business. 5 1..r ARCHITECIURAL CO MISSION NOVEMBER 29, 1989 His request is to install canvas drapery of the color of commission's choosing. The drapery wold only be drawn during evening hours. During the rest of the time, the drapery would be pulled back and not visible. Following extensive discussion, it was moved by Commissioner Holden, seconded by Commissioner Drury, to deny the request. Chairman Gregory opposing. Commission informed applicant that the decision is appealable to the city council with 15 days. The following were the reasons for denial: i) Canvas is not an acceptable architectural element to add to the building. ii) Other methods of temporarily closing off the patio are available to the applicant iii) Fire hazard due to the lack of exits out of the patio area iv) The possible hazard of the drapery falling during windy conditions 5. CASE NO.: PP 89-28 APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS): ARCHISTRUCPURE, 41-280 Beacon Hill, Palm Desert, CA 92260 NATURE OF P%X7EGT/APPRUVAL SOUGHT: Approval of architecture and landscaping plans for six (6) unit apartment LOCATION: South side Fred Waring Drive, east side of San Pablo ZONE: R-3 5.0. It was moved by Commissioner Drury, seconded by Commissioner Holden, to continue the case expressing their concerns to the Planning Commission regarding the lack of landscape screening on the rear of the project, the size of the driveway for trash pick- ups and emergency vehicles, and the dead-end driveway situation. Commission suggested that, if possible, the property should share access with the vacant lot to the west. The commission would also suggest sass-crete at the entrance V.
