Mr. Larry Biggert, G.M. , Holiday Inn Express, told commission
his hotel was having difficulty being identified by patrons
who arrive after dark. He also asked commission if he could
re-orient the freestanding sign which was recently installed.
Commission agreed that visibility and identity was a problem
given the location of the building on the site, the location
of signs, and the location of trees .
Commission suggested that the applicant come up with a
comprehensive plan to address the issues . The applicant
could meet with Eric Johnson to consider re-location of trees
and could also consider placing the freestanding sign in a
planter area in the middle of the access driveway.

Action:
Accordingly, it was moved by Commissioner Urrutia, seconded
by Commissioner Van Vliet, to continue this case. Motion
carried 3-0 .
4 . CASE NO. : 1470 SA
APPLICANT (AND ADDRESS) : NORA MARTIN, 73-956 El Paseo, Palm
Desert, CA 92260
NATURE OF PROJECT/APPROVAL SOUGHT: New sign
LOCATION: 73-956 E1 Paseo
ZONE: C-1
The applicant explained that his client was locating in a
vacant unit at 73-956 E1 Paseo. The previous tenant had a
sign mounted on the brass architectural projection. When the
sign was removed the brass face is unattractive due to
exposed drilled holes .
The proposal then was to cover the brass was a thin sheet of
colored material and install a new sign over it.
This was unacceptable to commission as it would look odd next
to the existing sign and brass face on the twin unit to the
east.
Commission felt the damaged brass face should be repaired or
replaced and appropriate signage placed thereon.
Action:
Accordingly, it was moved by Commissioner Urrutia, seconded
by Commissioner Van Vliet to continue this case directing the
applicant to attempt to match the existing sign and
background to the east.
V. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 1 :50 p.m.
