The applicant, Jack Smith, was now present to answer their questions . Mr. Smith indicated that it would be a black awning with 8" white letters . The existing sign would be removed. Commissioner O'Donnell noted that the commission had asked to see details on the proposed awning. Mr. Smith showed that the awning would be 15 ' long, 4 ' wide and the projection would be 4 ' . Commission did not feel that the proposed awning was viable. Commissioner Urrutia suggested that the awning be brought straight down from the edge of the building and returned rather than at a 45 degree angle as proposed. Commission approved the awning subject to it being redesigned to align with the existing fascia and returning the ends . Commission felt that the proposed angled awning was incompatible with the architecture. 2 . He showed how the new sign had been placed on the end of the rafters temporarily, and indicated that he did not know of any other place on the building where the sign could be placed. Commission noted their concerns with the amount of signs on the building. Commissioner Urrutia felt that the proposed sign looked out of scale in that it was a very small frontage and there were a lot of signs filling up the entire front of the building. Chairman Gregory agreed. 3 vwavo *4400, MINUTES ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMISSION JULY 11, 1995 Ms . Garcia indicated that the building only has one entrance and they will be leasing out one-half of the store. Eventually the new tenant will also want signage on the front of the building. Action: It was moved by Commissioner Urrutia, seconded by Commissioner O'Donnell, to reject the sign as shown and presently installed as they felt it did not fit proportionally on the building. Commission suggested that the applicant consider a similar sign that is reduced in size and placed under the beam. Motion carried 5-0 . V.
