signage facing frontage and the wall plaques are considered wall
signage. The sign ordinance does allow blade signs. In talking
with the applicant, the wall plaques are a part of their trademark.
He presented a couple of other businesses where they used the
wall plaques and wall signage. A color and material board was
presented for the signs and awnings.
The Commission discussed the lettering on the awnings and the
material for the rear elevation sign. They had concerns with the
amount of signage and felt it was overkill. They discussed what
could be eliminated and recommended eliminating the lettering on
the awnings.
Commissioner Vuksic said if the Commission allows wall signs,
blade signs, wall plaques, signs on the awnings, and signs on the
building what will this Commission say to the next person that
comes in and wants to place signs all over their building.
Mr. Tony Bagato, Principal Planner, said the Commission can
approve exceptions to the sign program based on design merit. If
the Commission believes that this enhances the architecture of the
building, you can make this determination verses someone bill-
`'"` boarding their wall. He reminded the Commission that the
applicant is not asking for anything above the allowable square
footage.
The Commission continued to discuss the lettering on the awnings
and felt there was sufficient signage both on the front and the back.
The Commission agreed.
Commissioner Colombini made a motion to approve all signs,
including the bronze type sign on the rear elevation and eliminating
the lettering on the awnings. Commissioner Lambell made the
second. Chair Van Vliet asked if there were any further comments.
The Commission discussed the wood sign on the rear elevation.
Commissioner Colombini amended his motion approving the rear
signage, size as shown and wood to be maintained by the
applicant. Commissioner Lambell agreed to the change.
ACTION:
Commissioner Colombini moved to approve all signs and awning lettering
shall be removed. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Lambell and
carried by an 8-0 vote.
