Mr. Diaz explained that per catmission's request the city council selected two members (Mayor Ber��on and Councilman Snyder) to serve on a carmittee. He indicated that the parks and recreation carmission will select m�nbers at thei� next meeting. Catmissioner Richards and CaYmissioner Dawns volunteered to serve on the catmittee. Chairman Fsti��od r�ted a correction on page 6 paragraph 9 of the agreement fmn 660 units to 612. Ms. Allen indicated that she would have it corrected. Chairman Erwood o ened the public testimony and asked if the applicant wist�d to address the carmission. They did not. C7�airman ���od asked for a motion of continuance. Mr. Diaz noted that a letter of opposition has been received fran the t�aparral Homeowners Association. Action• Moved by Commissioner powns, seconded by CoimLissioner Richards, continuing this matter to June 7, 1988 and appointing Cannissioners Downs and Richaz'ds to sezve on the subconmittee. Cbntirn�ed C3se No. ZUA 8f3-2 - CITY OF PAIM DESgtT, Applicants „�, Request for consideration of an americfi�.nt to the zoning ordinance to require approval of the architectural camussion prior to changing the oolor of buildings in the catmercial zones and to require development in the Hillside Planned Residential zone be colored to blend with the natural hillside material. Mr. Diaz stated that as indicated in the report, this review of the zoning ordinance was generated by concern received due to the inability to control colors. This americhnent would establish specific requirements that a unit must blend in with the hillside and conform to catmercial areas. NII�. SAI�IDY BAi�I, 45-800 Deep Canyon Drive, stated that if this is going to be done, a specific color pallet should be selected. He noted that colors are subjective and felt that some restraints were getting out of hand. Catmissioner Richards stated that he had similar views and felt all stages should be considered carefully before anything is done. 3 ... Cannissioner Richards stated that if El Pasea wanted to clo sanethiszg with E1 Paseo, fine, but the city shr�uld not get inwlved. Mr. Diaz explained that on new buildings the architectural caTmission sees the aolor; the problem is with repaintirig. He stated that he shares the oo�cerns raised and they will be addressed in the staff report. Action: Moved by Commissioner powns, seconded by Carmissioner Whitlock, continuirig ZOA 88-2 to May 17, 1988. Carried 5-0. VIII. MIS(�LI�JS A. Ca..� Nos. GPA 84-3 ar�d C/Z 84-18. Consideration of reaffirmation of January 15, 1985 Resolution No. 1024. N�. Diaz e.xplained that this matter had been previously appraved by "�` the plaruzisig ooRmission and had received first reading by the city council, but was post�oned fran second readuzg due to the north sphere studies. He indicated that staff was requesting a minute motion reaffirming appraval of Resolution No. 1024. Catmissioner Richards reviewed the background of the previous appraval and indicated that it was a routine matte�. Action: Moved by Commissioner Richards, seconded by CamLissioner Ladlaw, reaffinning adQption of Planning Catmission Resolution No. 1024. Carried 5-0. IX. ORAL QTT�IJNI(�TIC[�S None. X. Diaz i.nforrned ccm�tission that two members of the cormtission were needed for a task force aam�ittee to discuss architectural design 4 ,.rr T�III�ATI'ES PAIM DFS�T P'I�ANNII� �M�IISSICN Ml�Y 3, 19£3�3 "" philosophy for El Paseo, along with t� members of the city council, architectural camLission, E1 Paseo Merchants Association and Palm Desert Property Owners Association. He explained that the purpose of the task force would be to establish goals for E1 Paseo and a review procedure. Mr. Diaz also explained that the c�nmittee w�uld meet only once, and they would discuss colors, awnings, and building structure. He in�;cated that Mayor Benson was trying to ,resolve concerns and set a review procedure and indicated that there would be a lot of r�iodelirig in the future and colors needed to be resolved. After discussion one m�nber of the oatmission, Comnissioner Ladlow, was able to serve on the cannittee. Carmission also felt that there have recently bee,n too many c.amuttees established and suggested that this be placed on the joint meeting agenda for May 13. Camtissioner Richard.s rx�ted that he had requested a camlittee recently and did not wish to see the option totally deleted. XI.
