WHEREAS, the Design Review Board of the City of Palm Desert, California, has reviewed a request by MR. ROY CARVER for directory signs to be located at the Palms -to -Pines Shopping Center; and, WHEREAS, said matter was continued from the special meeting of January 25, 1977, to the regularly scheduled Commission meeting of February 15, 1977, to allow the applicant to be in attendance to review the matter; and, WHEREAS, after duly considering the matter at the regularly scheduled meeting of February 15, 1977, the Planning Commission is of the opinion that such signs are not appropriate for the following reasons: 1) The proposed signs are excessive in area in relationship to the existing signs in the centers; 2) Too much information is being proposed on each of the signs which will result in the signs not being effective in that they are adjacent to public roads where traffic will be moving at a reasonable speed; 3) The intent of ground signs for shopping centers is to limit them to the advertisement of the center itself or some more generalized categories than are being displayed by the signs that have been submitted; 4) The proposed signs would not be compatible to the surrounding areas or the projects in which they are proposed to be located; 5) The proposed signs are not consistent with actions by the Planning Commission on other shopping centers in the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Planning Commission of the City of Palm Desert, California, does hereby find as follows: 1) The above represents the findings of the Commission on this matter; 2) The requested directory signs are hereby rejected for reasons ex- pressed above. -1- Planning Commission Resolution No. 218 PASSED, APPROVED, and ADOPTED at a regularly scheduled meeting of the Palm Desert Planning Commission, held on this 15th day of February, 1977, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: BERKEY, KELLY, MILLS, READING, WILSON NOES: NONE ABSENT: NONE ABSTAIN: NONE ATTEST: PAUL A.
