A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PALM
DESERT, CALIFORNIA, ANNOUNCING FINDINGS AND APPROVING A
VARIANCE FROM THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE PALM DESERT MUNICIPAL
CODE REGARDING THE NUMBER AND LOCATION OF IDENTIFICATION SIGNS
IN COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL ZONES.
CASE NO. VAR 06-80
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission of the City of Palm Desert, California,
did on September 2, 1980, hold a duly noticed Public Hearing and continued Public
Hearing for September 17, 1980, to consider the application of QRS CORPORATION (for
ANAHEIM SAVINGS), requesting approval of a Variance from the Palm Desert Municipal
Code (Sign Ordinance) to allow two (2) main signs, one of which would be a Free-
standing sign located within the C-1, S.P. (General Commercial, Scenic Preservation
Overlay) zone, generally located at the northwest corner of El Paseo and San Pablo
Avenue, more particularly described as:
APN 627-202-003
WHEREAS, at said Public Hearing, upon hearing and considering all testimony
and arguments, the Planning Commission did find the following facts and reasons to
exist to justify the approval of said Variance:
1. The strict or literal interpretation and enforcement of the adopted
Sign Ordinance will result in practical difficulty or unnecessary
physical hardship inconsistent with the objectives of the ordinance.
2. There are recognizable exceptional or extraordinary circumstances
or conditions involved that do not generally apply to other commercial
buildings with similar orientations.
3. The strict or literal interpretation and enforcement of the Ordinance
would not deny the applicant a privilege enjoyed by others in similar
circumstance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Planning Commission of the City of
Palm Desert, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct and constitute the
findings of the Commission in this case;
2. That Case No. VAR 06-80 is hereby approved in accordance with exhibits
on file in the Department of Environmental Services and subject to
conditions attached hereto.
