CALL TO ORDER Chair Zannie Murphy convened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. 11. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None IV. PRESENTATIONS MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE DECEMBER 1, 2014 Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert Volunteer Betsy Helie provided details on the Museum's Galen 5K scheduled for Saturday, December 27, 2014. She encouraged members to sign up for the event and to promote it to their friends and families. She also relayed that volunteer opportunities are available for the event and that interested members can contact Ms. Schwartz Glickman for information on how to volunteer. V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. MINUTES of the November 3, 2014, Youth Committee meeting Upon motion by Member M. Dan, second by Member Hutchinson, and 12-0-1-2 vote of the Youth Committee (AYES: Chaplin, Chen, M. Dan, P. Dan, Goldstone, Hutchinson, Kozlak, Murphy, D. Sandoval-Heglund, S. Sandoval-Heglund, Schmidman, and Seiberg; NOES: None; ABSTENTIONS: Olson`; ABSENT: Bloch and Kim), the November 3, 2014, Minutes were approved as presented. *Member Olson initially voted aye; however, because he had not been officially sworn in by the City Clerk, the vote was changed to an abstention upon preparation of the Minutes. VI. NEW BUSINESS None *0 VII. OLD BUSINESS None Will. CONTINUED BUSINESS None IX. REPORTS AND REMARKS A. COUNCIL MEMBERS None B. STAFF Ms. Schwartz Glickman passed out information on the General Plan public hearing to the four members that volunteered to attend at the last meeting. She reminded them that the first meeting would take place at Desert Willow Golf Resort on Thursday, December 4, 2014. 2 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE DECEMBER 1, 2014 C. COMMITTEE MEMBERS 1 . Events a. Wreath Lighting Ms. Lawrence circulated a sign-up sheet for members' assistance with the City's Wreath Lighting event on Friday, December 5, 2014, at 5 p.m. She noted that members would be helping kids decorate sugar cookies, light the wreath, and organize the line for kids to meet Santa Claus. b. Lincoln Afterschool Program Holiday Party Ms. Lawrence circulated a sign-up sheet for members' assistance with the Lincoln Holiday Party on Monday, December 15, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. She noted that as with years past, there would be five separate activities for the kids to partake in. Upon discussion as to which activities would be provided, members agreed on musical chairs, "Santa Says", a candy cane ring toss game, ornament decorating, and sugar cookie decorating. c. Youth Committee Projects a. Veterans History Project No update 4. Youth Committee Subcommittee Updates ° i a. Anti-bullying Subcommittee Member Hutchinson reported that the anti-bullying presentation to Carter Elementary School students went well and that the students seemed very interested in the subject. Ms. Schwartz Glickman indicated that she was impressed with the presentation and that she felt the members made a difference. Ms. Lawrence noted that she would get the contact information for all Palm Desert elementary schools to Ms. Schwartz Glickman so that presentations can be scheduled for 1"0 next year. b. Legislative Review Committee Member Chen reported that the Legislative Review Committee is not scheduled to meet until January 2015. c. Citizens' Sustainability Committee Member Kozlak reported that the next Citizens' Sustainability Committee meeting will take place in February 2015. d. Palm Desert Sister Cities Foundation Chair Murphy reported that the Sister Cities Foundation is currently working to organize a fundraiser. Chair Murphy conveyed on behalf of the Youth Committee that the members will miss Ms. Lawrence and that they appreciate her dedication and hard work over the years. She went on to say that the members are looking forward to working with Ms. Schwartz Glickman beginning in January. Ms. Lawrence thanked the 4 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE DECEMBER 1, 2014 members for their gratitude and said that working with the Youth Committee has been a great experience for her. X.
