CALL TO ORDER Chair Kim convened the meeting at 6:04 p.m. II. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE OCTOBER 8, 2018 IV. PRESENTATIONS A. Relay For Life—Janine Judy The representative was not able to attend. Ms. Glickman presented on and invited the Youth Committee members to volunteer for the Relay For Life event to be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Palm Valley School in Rancho Mirage. A sign-up sheet was circulated. B. Palm Desert Sister Cities— Charles Riggs Mr. Riggs talked to the Youth Committee about the Sister Cities Foundation and invited them to be liaisons for the Foundation. A sign-up sheet was circulated. C. City of Palm Desert's Tourism and Marketing Manager—Thomas Soule Mr. Soule talked to the Committee about what his job entails, as well as his background and education. V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES i A. MINUTES of the September 17, 2018, Palm Desert Youth Committee meeting Upon a motion by Member Fitzpatrick, second by Member Berenbaum, and a 7-2 vote of the Youth Committee, (AYES: Ahmad, Berenbaum, Cho, Fitzpatrick, Haile, Kim, and Scibora); NOES: None; ABSTENTIONS: None; ABSENT: Capobianco and Shaw (Dewegeli, Duckworth, Kulas, and Ross not sworn in), the May 14, 2018, Minutes were approved as presented. VI. NEW BUSINESS Upon a unanimous vote by the Youth Committee, Chair Kim was appointed to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide an update on Youth Committee activities at the October 25, 2018 City Council Meeting. VII. OLD BUSINESS None VIII. CONTINUED BUSINESS None 2 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE OCTOBER 8, 2018 IX. REPORTS AND REMARKS A. COUNCIL MEMBERS B. STAFF Discussed notebooks for the Alternate — Ms. Glickman inquired as to which new alternates needed a Youth Committee notebook. Three (3) alternates indicated the need for notebooks, as well as shirts. Attendance sheets - Ms. Glickman handed out attendance tracking sheets for members to'track their volunteer hours throughout the year so the information can be used for future letters of appreciation. C. COMMITTEE MEMBERS 1. Events a. Anti-bullying Workshop in Schools - At this time, the Youth Committee members were not interested in setting up workshops.Mayor Harnik suggested that the Committee work with the Sister Cities Foundation to connect with youth from Palm Desert Sister Cities to talk about cyber-bullying b. Youth Committee Presentation - Palm Desert Charter Middle Schools —TBD. c. Youth Senior Technology Workshops— Dates will be determined at the November meeting. 3 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE OCTOBER 8, 2018 2. Proiects a. No-Idle Zone for Cleaner Air For Schools The air quality monitor is not working at present. Staff is working to determine the issue. 3. Sub-Committee Updates a. Anti-bullying Subcommittee No report. b. Palm Desert Sister Cities Foundation. No report. c. Other Committee/Commission Reports. No report. X.
