D -• : April 5, 1996 4411 \ DONNA C. BITTER Senior Office Assistant City of Palm Desert, California - r.r.r'." 4 CITY OF PALM DESERT MEMORANDUM TO: RICHARD FOLKERS, ACM/DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS FROM: PHIL DRELL, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DATE: APRIL 4, 1996 SUBJECT: RE-SODDING OF IRONWOOD PARK I have been directed by the Parks and Recreation Commission to request that you proceed with the re-sodding of Ironwood Park as proposed. PHIL DRELL, IRECTOR DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PD/db MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION APRIL 14, 1993 wearing vests which read "Park Patrol" , and they indicated that they worked every night patrolling the park from 4 : 00 p.m. to 7 : 00 p.m. She noted that the patrol personnel spend most of their time watching the lagoon as the pavilion is very busy with families and the water lagoon is very inviting to the toddlers in this area. Mr. Diaz noted that the Sheriff ' s Department overlooks this program. Commissioner Driskel asked why college students couldn't participate in this patrol program. Chairman Marman didn't think this would be a problem, and offered to promote the program at the college. Mr. Diaz still maintains that the key to having a park with no problems is a park continuously used by families . He added that the city is also looking into installing another public phone in the park. Commission discussed their concerns with the time it is taking to install the carved stone signage throughout the park, and asked that Mr. Diaz look into the matter to discuss at the next commission meeting. He noted that the artist who was granted the contract for the park signage had no experience in a public works project and this was causing the delay. Mr. Diaz felt; however, that this should not delay the installation of the signage at the tennis courts . Commission also suggested that included in the signage would be a sign stating the park hours in order to enforce curfew laws . They also felt that some type of temporary signage should be installed until the permanent signage can be placed. Commissioner Barnes felt that since there are now eight Parks and Recreation Commissioners, that each one of them adopt a park and observe it at least once a week to see first hand what is going on at the various parks throughout the city. Commission felt this was an excellent idea. Mr. Diaz appreciated this offer from the commission and asked that if any of them observe anything at the park that they contact him directly. Commission agreed on the following park adoptions : Civic Center Park: Donna Peat Civic Center Park (north area) : Daniel Barnes Civic Center Park Tot Lot Area: Maria Neatherton Olsen Field: Dolores Driskel Cahuilla Hills Park: Bob Royer Magnesia Falls Park: Donna Peat Palm Desert High School : Bob Royer/Dennis Orsborn Haystack Linear Park: John Marman 2
