Dear Fern:
Since receiving your letter of January 12, 1979, I have had discussions with
you by telephone, with the City Council in a Study Session , with the Parks &
Recreation Commission at one of their regular meetings , and most recently with
Mr. Gordon Jensen of the Palm Desert Youth Sports Association , Inc.
In view of what Gordon Jensen told me just this afternoon, it would appear that
there are problems associated with joint use of the "alfalfa field" that for the
time being seem insurmountable.
Accordingly, I suggest that we postpone our pursuit of the concept until the
full ramifications and impact of Proposition #13 are more fully known by COD
and its Board of Trustees. The City, of course, has also been impacted by
Proposition #13, and although we felt that it was possible to undertake an
initial capital appropriation of $20,000, we do not feel it possible to
"--absorb all continuing costs including adequate insurance coverage. "
Working with the City Parks & Recreation Commission and the Palm Desert Youth
Sports Association , Inc. , we shall try to regroup and see if another site may
be available. We appreciate your efforts and hope the door may remain open so
that we can come back later when things may be more favorable. I am still of
the opinion that there is a splendid opportunity for the City and COD to cooperate
on a recreation facility program which can be highly beneficial to both agencies .
We' ll try it again later.
Very truly yours

Dear Sir or Madame:
This is to advise you of and invite you to attend a meeting of the
various service organizations providing recreational activities in
the Palm Desert area.
The meeting, which is being planned by the Palm Desert Park and
Recreation Commission, has been tentatively scheduled for
March 26, 1979, at 7:00 p.m. in the Palm Desert City Hall Council
Chambers.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide an open forum for the
discussion of recreational related matters, fact finding, and for the
coordination of existing and proposed recreational activities and
facilities.
Inas much as your participation in this meeting is essential , we
would appreciate hearing from you no later than Friday, March 23,
1979, regarding your attendance.
We trust this meeting will be as helpful for the organizations
attending as it will for the City of Palm Desert. Should you have any
