CIVIC CENTER COUNCIL CHAMBER * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I. CALL TO ORDER Mayor/Chairman Crites convened the meeting at 8:30 a.m. II. ROLL CALL Present: Excused Absence: Councilmember/Member Jean. M. Benson Councilman/Member Richard S. Kelly Mayor Pro-Tem/Vice Chairman Jim Ferguson Councilman/Member Robert A. Spiegel Mayor/Chairman Buford A. Crites Also Present: Carlos L. Ortega, Acting City Manager and RDA Executive Director Sheila R. Gilligan, Acting Assistant City Manager Rachelle D. Klassen, Acting City Clerk III. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None IV. CONTINUED BUSINESS A. ADJOURN TO CLOSED SESSION FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONDUCTING A CONFERENCE REGARDING PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT PURSUANT TO GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 54957: Titles of Positions: City Attorney City Clerk City Manager Redevelopment Agency Executive Director With City Council/Agency Board concurrence, Mayor/Chairman Crites adjourned the meeting to Closed Session at 8:30 a.m. He reconvened the meeting at 8:43 a.m. MINUTES ADJOURNED JOINT MEETING OF THE PALM DESERT CITY COUNCIL AND PALM DESERT REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY AUGUST 7, 2000 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Following reconvening of the meeting, Mayor/Chairman Crites announced that this morning, during Closed Session, the City Council/Agency Board voted unanimously for the appointment of Carlos Ortega to permanently assume the position of City Manager and Executive Director of the Redevelopment Agency. He said on behalf of his colleagues, noting Councilman/Member Kelly already had to leave, he congratulated Mr. Ortega for his nearly 25 years of service to the City and looked forward to an excellent future. Further, he extended good wishes to Mr. Ortega's family in attendance, commenting that the aforementioned duties affected all family members. Mr. Ortega said he hoped to fulfill the expectations of the City Council/Agency Board, remarking that he was proud to be named to the position in what was felt to be the best City in the State and acknowledged that it would also be a challenge to maintain that tradition. V. ADJOURNMENT Upon a motion by Councilman/Member Spiegel, second by Mayor Pro-Tern/Vice Chairman Ferguson, and 4-0 vote of the City Council/Agency Board with Councilman/Member Kelly ABSENT, Mayor/Chairman Crites adjourned the meeting at 8:45 a.m. ATTEST: RACHELLE D.
