CIVIC CENTER COUNCIL CHAMBER 1. CALL TO ORDER Mayor/Chairman Kelly convened the meeting at 8:50 a.m. II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Councilman/Member Jim Ferguson III. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None MINUTES ADJOURNED JOINT MEETING OF THE PALM DESERT CITY COUNCIL AND THE PALM DESERT REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY VI. RESOLUTIONS DECEMBER 3, 2002 A. RESOLUTION NO. 02-148 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2002, DECLARING THE RESULT AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS PROVIDED BY LAW. Councilman/Member Spiegel moved to waive further reading and adopt Resolution No. 02-148. Motion was seconded by Councilman/Member Crites and carried by unanimous vote. VII. AWARDS, PRESENTATIONS, AND APPOINTMENTS A. Administering of the Oath of Office to Newly Elected Councilmembers. Mrs. Klassen administered the Oath of Office to newly elected Councilmembers Jean M. Benson and Jim Ferguson, and presented them each with a framed Certificate of Election to the Office of Member of the City Council of the City of Palm Desert, California. B. Seating and Comments from Newly Elected Councilmembers. Mayor Pro-TemporeNice Chair Benson expressed sincere appreciation for the trust Palm Desert residents had placed in her and for what she felt the City had done for her over the last 20 years. She attributed the City's success to the way in which the City Council and City staff all worked together for the good of Palm Desert and looked forward to the next four years. She introduced her grandson, Rob, and his wife, Amy, of Goodyear, Arizona, present this morning, as were her friends Doris and Henry. Councilman/Member Ferguson also expressed his appreciation to the residents, his colleagues on the Council, his law partner and office manager, in the audience this morning, and especially to his family, also present, for their indulgence of the time he spent on City activities. He agreed with Mayor Pro-TemporeNice Chair Benson in that the City's success was due in no small part to the work of his fellow Councilmembers and ultimately City staff for carrying out the City Council's decisions. He was pleased that the "team" was being kept together to continue to do what it felt best for Palm Desert and to further its accomplishments. 2 MINUTES ADJOURNED JOINT MEETING OF THE PALM DESERT CITY COUNCIL AND THE PALM DESERT REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY VIII. ADJOURNMENT DECEMBER 3, 2002 Upon a motion by Councilman/Member Spiegel, second by Councilman/Member Crites, and unanimous vote of the City Council/Agency Board, Mayor/Chairman Kelly adjourned the meeting at 9:10 a.m. ATTEST: RIFARD S.
