HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 74-119RESOLUTION N0. 74-119 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, ENDORSIN� IN CONCEPT A REGIONAL COACHELLA VALLEY INTER-CITY TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM WHEREAS, the County of Riverside through the mechanics of developing its 5-year transit development plan has suggested that the Coachella Valley Association of Governments consider and recommend an organizational structure for the implementation of a regional Coachella Valley, Inter-City Transportation System; and, WHEREAS, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments, duly constituted a Transportation Committee, has given thorough study to a 5-year development program for the Coachella Valley; and, �aHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed a proposal for an inter-city system and evaluated it from the standpoint of both economics and transportation demand. NO�J, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Palm Desert does hereby endorse the concept of an inter-city transportation system in the Coachella Valley developed on an interim basis to be subsidized from SB 325 funds of each of the cities involved and the County of Riverside; and does support the concept of a first phase between Palm Springs and Palm Desert, originating from Palm Springs and operated as an extension of the Palm Springs transit system using Palm Springs equipment, staff and management; and does support the concept of a Joint Powers Agreement to implement such a plan after thorough study of routes and other pertinent detail by the CVAG City/County Mana�;ers Technical Advisory Committee; and furthermore, does encourage the governing bodies of those cities not immediately involved in the initial implementation of such a program to become parties to the proposed Joint Powers Agreement at its inception in preparation .� . RESOLUTION N0: 74-119 for future participation in subsequent phases of an inter- city Coachella Valley transit system.
