HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 74-073RESOLUTION NO. 74-73 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING A POLICY OF CARPORT DESIGN FOR RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENTS WHEREAS, it is the objective of the City Council to assure that every development in the community will be an asset in terms of function and aesthetic appeal, and WHEREAS, construction and design of car�orts is an important feature of residential development, and WHEREAS, control of those aspects of site design such as carports is considered necessary to guarantee compatibility of the developments to the areas and the community as a whole: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Desert, that it does hereby adopt as policy the following stand- ards for carport design for residential development: 1. Every residential unit hereafter constructed shall be provided a minimum of two covered parking spaces which may be either in a carport or a garage. 2, No covered spaces shall be located in any required yard setback area except for the rear yard setback. 3, Tamdem parking shall only be permitted for those spaces that exceed the requirements of this Resolution or the Zoning Ordinance. 4. If carports are to be utilized, said carports shall meet the following design criteria: a. Architecturally, the carport shall be designed to be compat- ible with all structures in the development. Compatibility will be evaluated on the basis of similarity of materials and roof design. b, The parking spaces within a carport shall be a minimum of 10 feet wide by 2 0 feet deep. c. Carports shall be of substantial construction with a minimum of two sides enclosed. d, The interior of the carport shall be finished and shall include an enclosed storage area of a size to be approved by the Director of Lnvironmental Services. ` e. Carport shall be provided with permanent electric lighting 3esigned so as to prevent the creation of any glare onto adjacent property rnd / or public street. RESOLUTION NO. 74-73 f. The floor of the carport shall be a minimum of three inches of Portland cement concrete. g. Except for single family dwellings, carports shall not be located in an area fronting on a public street. Carport shall be located to the rear of, or side of, residential units. h. Carport shall be provided with a paved minimum backout space of 24 feet. i. Carports shall be located as unobtrusively and conveniently as possible and generally not more than 100 feet from the dwelling unit assigned to the carport spaces. The City Clerk is hereby directed to cause this Resolution to be posted in three (3) public places in accordance with Resolution 74-17 and Section 36933 of the Government Code of the State of California, and shall take effect and be in force thirty days after its adoption.
