A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE C ITY OF PALM
DESSERT. CALIFORNIA SUPPORTING A CHANGE IN LA 3 ASGARD-
ING 1'HS COIAR O!' PAVB1[ENT IlAR1CING3 USED TO DB3IGNATE
OFPICIAL BICTCLB LANE3 AND TRAIL3.
NH8REA8, the City Council haa been aware of tde community aeed
for adequate bike lane facilities; and
HEltEA3, Council 6ae thus initiated a canprehensive bicqcle
route develope eat in the Citq of Palm Desert; aad
NHEREA3, the Citq Council has become aware of the confusion by
motorists and cqcliste as to traffic procedure and policq regarding
the white colored bike laaes on a street where other white lanes
also appear; and
•HEREAS, t6e City Council of Palm Desert desires to provide the
most efficieat and safe cycling facilitq for its residents and their
children; and
HEREAS, the City Council notes that a distinctive color draws
attention to the fact that the bicycle is s6arinq the public strEet
and their safety need be considered;
NOM, THEREFORE. The City Council of the City nf Palm Desert,
California, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION l: That the Legislature of the State of California is
hereby urged to enact la s and/or statutes which will amend the
existing State bike laae marking policies so that a distinctive
color can be used eaclusively for bike lane indication.
SECTION 2: That the City Clerk is directed to send a certified
copy of this Resolution to Governor Edmund G. Brown. Jr., Lt.
Governor 1[ervya Dymally, Senator George Deukmejian, and Assemblqman
illiam Campbell. +

Palm Desert. California. this 12th day of February, 1976, by t6e
following vote:
