�iERBAB. Govereor Edmund G. Brown� Jr.•s proposed budget
for the 19T6-77 fiscal year does not provide any appropriation
for the essential work heretofore carried on by the Colorado
River Board oi California; and
wEiEREAB, for the past 39 years the Colorado River [ioard
has beea e!!�ctively protecting the interests of the citizens
of California in the valuable �rater and power resources of the
Colorado River, whic6 provides about 75A of all the water used
by almost 11 million people living in Southern California and
�rhich is makfng a significant contribution to the electric
eaergy supply of the same region; and
1fHEREA3� Governor BroMn proposes not only to omit any
State financing for the iadispensable �work of the Colorado River
Board, but has anncunced a plan to abolish the Board and lose
its identity in the State's Department of Mater Resvurces, rhere
it would be far removed from its present close contact with and
responsibility to the millions of citizens who depend upon
Colorado River water for domestic. municipal, industrial and
agricultural purposes; and
�itEREAS. such a drastic move would seriously endanger t6e
vast state of California aad its citizens in the vital services
contingent upon Colorado River water and power;
NOw, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Palm Desert. California, does 6ereby urge Governor
Browa to restore t6e Colorado River Board to its historic and
time provea status in t6e interests of the citizens we directly
represent and for the ecoaomic benefit of the State's total
resources program; and
