HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 80-007RESOLUTION N0. 80-7 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, DECLARING THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT FOR U. S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS PLAN 2 FOR PALM DESERT, AND FOR PLAN 1 FOR INDIAN WELLS. WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert has periodically suffered severe flood damage; and WHEREAS, floodwater flow information for the floods of September, 1976, and July, 1979, provided opportunities for sophisticated technical analysis by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and by the Coachella Valley Water District; and WHEREAS, from the conclusions of technical of Palm Desert, the City Council and Staff are approximating $30 Million to correct "in-City" nature; and studies undertaken by the City developing a plan to generate funds drainage problems of a local WHEREAS, the correction of such local drainage problems should logically be a part of a regional flood control plan which is not the prime responsibility of the City of Palm Desert; and WHEREAS, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Coachella Valley Water District are now at a point where statements of preferences and support by local agencies are essential to their continuing efforts to bring about the needed regional flood control improvements. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Palm Desert hereby expresses a statement of support for and endorsement of: 1. An improvement project known as "Bechtel Plan 1-A Modified" of the Coachella Valley Water District; and 2. An improvement project known as Plan 2 for Palm Desert, from an Information Brochure of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers dated January, 1980; and 3. An improvement project known as Plan 1 for Indian Wells, from an Information Brochure of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers dated January, 1980. IT IS HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Palm Desert pledges its support to the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, to the Coachella Valley Water District, to the City of Indian Wells, and to the citizens of the entire region by urging the Corps of Engineers and the Coachella Valley Water District to proceed with utmost haste in bringing about the flood control improvements herein defined, and further, that while such efforts are being undertaken, the City will similarly work to raise the �30 Million needed to bring about the local drainage improvements at the earliest possible date. PASSED, APPROVED, and ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Palm Desert, California, at their adjourned meeting held �^ the 29th day of January, 1980, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: McPherson, Newbrander, Wilson & Mullins NOES: None ABSENT: Brush ABSTAIN: None ATTEST: SHEILA R.
