A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT,
CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING THE DESERT SANDS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT'S
APPLICATION FOR FUNDING UNDER THE LEROY GREEN ACT AND URGING
THE STATE ALLOCATION BOARD'S APPROVAL.
WHEREAS, the Desert Sands Unified School District Board of Education, in
recognition of the tremendous population growth within its District and the related and
immediate need for new school facilities, has, by unanimous vote, applied for funding
under the LeRoy Greene Act for the construction of a second District high schoo! on the
Cook Street site in Palm Desert; and
WHEREAS, this application is based on the recommendation of a geographically
and ethnicly balanced community advisory committee; and
WHEREAS, the concept of this high school has been repeatedly endorsed by a
majority of the voters in school tax elections over the past 15 years; and
WHEREAS, this application has been reviewed, verified, and approved at every
level of the Greene Act application process prior to being submitted for Allocation Board
approval; and
WHEREAS, the Desert Sands Unified School District has continually manifested its
support for the welfare of its students and employees through implementation of
exemplary ethnic balance and affirmative action plans; and
WHEREAS, THE Board of Education of the Desert Sands Unified School District
has indicated its intent to involve broad community participation in the planning and
development of its new school facilities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Palm Desert City Council offers
its strong endorsement of this application for funding under the LeRoy Greene Act and
urges State Allocation Board approval of it.
PASSED, APPROVED, and ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Palm
Desert, California, at its Adjourned Meeting held on the 16th day of December, 1982, by
the following vote, to wit:
