A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT,
, CALIFORNIA, IN OPPOSITION TO AB 2742 - ROBINSON,
ON CABLE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS

VHHEREAS, AB 2742 proposes, among other things, to declare Cable TV Systems to
be public utilities and to place such systems under the control of the State Public
Utilities' Commission; and
WHEREAS, the local conditions affecting Cable TV demand, rates, and level of
service are different from place to place and are thus better monitored and controlled at
the local level; and
WHEREAS, there is no demonstrated justification to further proliferate the power
and control of the State into an area which local government and competitive private
enterprise are handling in a conscientious and capable manner; and
WHEREAS, there is no public clamor for State intervention into a communications
system which is keeping abreast of the technical state of the art and doing it in such a
way as to give the public all the protection and service it requires.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm
Desert, California, that it hereby voices its opposition to AB 2742 and urges all members
of the California Legislature and its committees to defeat this unnecessary and unwanted
� legislation.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Palm
Desert, California, at a regular meeting held on the 25th day of March, 1982, by the
following vote, to wit:
