HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 85-061RESOLUTION NO. 85-61 A RESOLU'TION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF ASSEMBLY BILL 1868 (AIR RESOURCES BOARD MEMBERSHIP) WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert is located in the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and is concerned about the quality of our air; and WHEREAS, the SCAQMD is charged with the responsibility for solving what is generally acknowledged to be a very severe air pollution problem that will require a great effort before all ambient air quality standards are attained throughout the regions of the District; and WHEREAS, the SCR-32 (Montoya) study report in 1980 recommended that the SCAQMD and Bay Area AQMD each be given permanent seats on the Air Resources Board; and WHEREAS, the SCAQMD under current law has to share an ARB seat on a rotating basis; and WHEREAS, the Air Resources Soard has stated that since the SCAQMD is the largest, most complex, multi-county district in the State with a correspondingly larger air pollution problem than any other district in California, it is approriate that the SCAQMD have a permanent ARB seat; and WHEREAS, to provide for a permanent seat on the ARB, the SCAQMD requested Assembly Member Charles M. Calderon to introduce Assembly Bill 1868. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Palm Desert, California, that it does hereby support and urge the passage of AB-1868 as a step to strengthen the air quality management program for the citizens of this area.
