which is working to do so through a public/private. iocal, ;t.:`e,
�r,d federal government partnership; and
WHEREAS, the Nat i ona 1 Scen i c Area and Bi g Morongo Can;�-,
ACEC provide critical habitat for diverse wiidlife SFe!'ie:.
inc�uding the peninsular bighorn sheep and numerous •�th�r
sensitive. rare. threatened. an endangered species; and
MHEREAS. the National Scenic Area is of great econ�,m�.c
importance to the citizens and communities of the Coacr,el'a
V.3 1 1 ey i n prov i d i ng the scen i c backdrop wh i ch i s a v i ra 1
component of the attraction of the Coachella Valley to vis�}or;
rrom all over the worid; and
MHEREAS, the National Scenic Area provides valuab��
recreational opportunities for hundreds of thousands of Ccache''.�

MHEREAS, absent ac4uisition and protection of lands wi'�r,i-,
