A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA,
REQUESTING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION AND THE CALIFORNIA
TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO INITIATE
THE RELINQUISHMENT AND/OR RELOCATION OF
STATE ROUTE 111 DESIGNATION FROM THE
PALM DESERT WESTERN CITY LIMITS TO
MONTEREY AVENUE/HIGHWAY 74.
WHEREAS, the City of Cathedral City has adopted a specific plan
for its central business area, which is currently intersected by
Highway 111; and
WHEREAS, Cathedral City believes that it cannot accomplish the
implementation of said plan without the relinquishment and/or
relocation of State Route 111 Designation through its corporate limits;
and
WHEREAS, various policies and regulations of the California State
Department of Transportation, other agencies and the State of
California may require adjoining jurisdictions to undertake similar
actions in order that Cathedral City be able to successfully pursue the
relinquishment and/or relocation of Highway 111; and
WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert's cooperation has been requested
by the City of Cathedral City in this regard; and
WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert wishes to cooperate with the City
of Cathedral City; and
WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert has been assured that adoption of
resolutions requesting relinquishment and/or relocation of State Route
111 Designation from its western boundary to Monterey Avenue/Highway
74, does not commit the city to an irreversible course of action, but
merely permits the process to commence; and
WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert wishes to cooperate with the City
of Cathedral City's goals, objectives, and programs as they relate to
Highway 111; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Palm Desert, California, as follows:
SECTION 1. The CTC and Caltrans staff are hereby requested to
initiate and undertake all necessary studies, reviews, negotiations,
and other actions as required to relinquish and/or relocate State
Highway 111 Designation from Palm Desert's west city boundary to
Monterey Avenue/Highway 74 as illustrated on the attached Exhibit A, or
such other highway or route as may be approved by this council, subject
to such repairs, improvements as approved by this council.

SECTION 2. The ninety (90) day notification of proposed State
Highway relinquishment and/or relocation as specified in Section 73 and
8330.5 of said Street and Highways Code is hereby waived.
SECTION 3. This resolution is conditioned upon negotiation and
approval of a suitable Cooperative Agreement between Caltrans and the
City of Palm Desert to implement the relinquishment of the present
highway alignment.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Palm
Desert City Council, held on this 22nd, day of September, 1994, by the
following vote, to wit:
