HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 94-086RESOLUTION NO. 94-86 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT ESTABLISHING AN UNDERGROUNDING DISTRICT FOR THE PURPOSE OF THE EXPENDITURE OF RULE 20 A FUNDS BY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY. WHEREAS, annually the City of Palm Desert currently accrues 138,959.00 in Rule 20 A funds to be used solely for the purpose of undergrounding existing overhead utilities. WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert currently has accrued over $ 500,000.00 in the Edison Rule 20 A account for the purpose of undergrounding existing overhead utilities. WHEREAS, street improvements to the intersection of Deep Canyon Road and Highway 111 is identified in the City of Palm Desert's Fiscal Year 1994/95 Capital Improvement Program as Project Number 633-94. WHEREAS, the necessary street improvements cannot be accomplished without the relocation and undergrounding of the existing overhead utility lines which pass over and through the intersection of Deep Canyon Road and Highway 111. WHEREAS, according to February, 1994 vehicular counts, over 40,000 vehicles per day travels through the intersection of Deep Canyon Road and Highway 111. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Palm Desert hereby determines that the public necessity, health, safety and welfare requires the removal of the existing overhead utilities as shown in Attachment A of this resolution based on the following factors: 1. The said section of Deep Canyon Road and Highway 111 is extensively used by the general public and carries a heavy volume of vehicular traffic. 2. The removal of the existing overhead utility lines is necessary to facilitate needed street improvements at the intersection of Deep Canyon Road and Highway 111. 3. The proposed underground will avoid and eliminate unusually heavy concentration of overhead electrical facilities. RESOLUTION N . 94-86 Page two...
