RESOLUTION N0. 95-75
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, RESCINDING RESOLUTION N0.
93-23 AND EXPANDING THE BOARD OF THE PARKS AND
RECREATION COMMISSION TO NINE MEMBERS (SEVEN
MEMBERS AND TWO ALTERNATES) AND APPROVING THE
BYLAWS AS AMENDED
WHEREAS, it is believed that with the expansion of the city,
updated bylaws would better serve the community's recreational needs;
and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission was created in 1976
as a five-member board and expanded in 1993 to an eight-member board
with its primary responsibility those matters dealing with the parks
and recreational issues in the City; and
WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert has experienced tremendous growth
since 1976, and the need for ongoing recreational programs, the
operation and maintenance of parks and recreational facilities, and
long-range planning has substantially increased with that growth; and
WHEREAS, it is believed that a nine-member commission would bring
broader representation of the community to review and make decisions on
these increased challertges.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Palm Desert, California, that the Parks and Recreation Commission
Bylaws be approved and the commission expanded to seven members and two
alternate members, each to be appointed by the City Council to serve
four-year terms.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Palm
Desert City Council, at its regular meeting held on the 24th day of
August , 1995, by the following vote, to wit:
