RESOLUTION NO. 96-51
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PALM DESERT ELECTING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
LONG TERM DISABILITY PROGRAM OF THE
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA JOINT POWERS INSURANCE
AUTHORITY.
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 6500 et. seq. of the Government Code
of the State of California, the Southern California Joint Powers Insurance Authority was created
by a Joint Powers Agreement; and
WHEREAS, the Southern California Joint Powers Insurance Authority has undertaken
a study to determine the feasibility of providing a Long Term Disability Program for its member
cities and other covered agencies; and
WHEREAS, the Executive Committee of said Authority determined that said program
was feasible, and it was approved for implementation with a legal effective date of March 1,
1996 on the condition that member cities and other agencies electing to participate commit to
do so for a minimum of three (3) years by Resolution filed with the General Manager.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
SECTION 1. That on the effective date of this Resolution, but in no event prior to July
1, 1996. the City of Palm Desert elects and agrees to participate in the Long Term Disability
Program of the Southern California Joint Powers Insurance Authority, as above outlined, and
prior to that date to file with the Authority a certified copy of this Resolution authorizing
participation in the program.
SECTION 2. By this Resolution, the City of Palm Desert agrees to abide by the Long
Term Disability Program of the Southern California Joint Powers Insurance Authority as above
outlined, and the Mayor is authorized to execute all necessary agreements, acknowledgements
or memorandums required for the City's participation in said program.
SECTION 3. The City of Palm Desert, by this Resolution, commits itself to participate
in the SCJPIA Long Term Disability Program, as outlined above, for a term of at least three (3)
years commencing on the effective date of this Resolution, but in no event earlier than July 1,
1996.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk is directed to file a certified copy of this Resolution with
the General Manager of the Southern California Joint Powers Insurance Authority. and this
Resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
