RESOLUTION NO. 97-22
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PALM DESERT ESTABLISHING THE NUMBER OF
RESIDENTS OF TI� CITY FOR TI� PURPOSE OF
DETERMINING THE VOLUNTARY EXPENDITURE
CEILING FOR CITY ELECTIONS, AS ESTABLISHED IN
SECTION 1-7.05 OF THE PALM DESERT MU1vICIPAL CODE
TI� CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT DOES HEREBY
FIND, ORDER AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Recitals.
A. Pursuant to the Provisions of "The Political Reform Act of 1996," passed by
the voters as Proposition 208 on the November 5, 1996, Statewide ballot, the City Council has
adopted an ordinance establishing a voluntary expenditure ceiling for campaigns for City elective
office.
B. Pursuant to Palm Desert Ordinance No. 823, the voluntary expenditure ceiling
was established at an amount equal to one dollar (.75) per resident of the City for each election to
City elective of�ce.
C. Pursuant to Palm Desert Ordinance No. 832, the City Council is required to
establish by Resolution the number of residents in the City prior to each election for City elective
of�ce.
Section 2. For the exclusive purpose of determining the exact amount of the
voluntary expenditure ceiling for campaigns for City elective office, the City Council hereby finds
that there aze 33,474 permanent residents of the City of Palm Desert, as reflected in the most recent
data provided by the California Department of Finance. Therefore, as established by Palm Desert
Ordinance No. 823, the amount of the voluntary expenditure ceiling for campaigns for City elective
office is $25,106 per election.
Section 3. The City Council hereby declares that the determination herein shall
apply only to the voluntary expenditure ceiling eslablished in the Palm DeseR Ordinance No. 823
and shall have no bearing on any other matter.

Section 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
