HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 98-135None RESOLUTION NO. 98-135 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, PROCLAIMING AMERICA RECYCLES DAY ON NOVEMBER 15,1998, IN THE CITY OF PALM DESERT. WHEREAS, each year the City of Palm Desert generates 56,000 tons of municipal solid waste each year or more than 306,850 pounds per day; WHEREAS, the city has reached an over all recycling rate of 57% and acknowledges to continue to "close the loop" by purchasing products made with recycled content; WHEREAS, there is a need to focus the community's attention on the importance of recycling and closing the loop; WHEREAS, participating in America Recycles Day is one way to raise awareness about waste prevention and recycling and the importance of buying recycled products; WHEREAS, the theme for America Recycles Day is "If you are not buying recycled, your not really recycling"; WHEREAS, local businesses, nonprofit organizations and the cities of the Coachella Valley have joined to celebrate America Recycles Day November 15, 1998, at the College of the Desert Street Fair; WHEREAS, GTE has conducted a phone book recycling contest among the schools of the Coachella Valley, and will honor winners at the America Recycles Day celebration; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Palm Desert, as follows: 1. That it does hereby proclaim November 15, 1998, America Recycles Day in the City of Palm Desert; and 2. That is does here by renew its commitment to recycling and waste reduction efforts. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Palm Desert City Council held on this 12th day of November , 1998 by the following vote: AYES: Crites, Ferguson, Kelly, Spiegel, Benson NOES: None ABSENT: A% N: 'None N M.
