HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 98-057RESOLUTION NO. 98-57 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, CONCERNING TRIBAL COMPACTS WITH THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, Indian gaming activities have had a significant positive economic effect in Riverside County through the production of an increased number of jobs and taxable incomes; and WHEREAS, Riverside County gaming tribes have created thousands of jobs for both Indian and non -Indian residents of the County; and WHEREAS, gaming revenues generated by Riverside County Indian tribes has provided long - needed financing to dramatically upgrade reservation infrastructure and the health, education and employment opportunities of tribal members, reducing their need for welfare assistance and improving their employment capabilities; and WHEREAS, the lack of certainty in the Indian gaming industry has created turmoil and confusion and should be resolved; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Palm Desert, California, urges the governmental officials and the tribal officials currently involved in the conflict under tribal compact activities in California should make every attempt to resolve such dispute by mutual agreement for the benefit of all concerned.
