HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 05-061RESOLUTION NO. 05-61 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORATION (CALTRANS) AND THE CALIFORNIA TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION (CTC) INITIATE ACTIONS TO RELINQUISH ROUTE 111 AND ROUTE 74 TO THE CITY OF PALM DESERT WITHIN ITS CITY LIMITS. WHEREAS, Route 111 and Route 74 have been designated as State Highways before the City of Palm Desert was incorporated in 1973; and WHEREAS, Route 111 was the main east/west state route through the Coachella Valley; and WHEREAS, Interstate 10 has replaced Route 111 as the main east/west route through the Coachella Valley; and WHEREAS, Route 111 is no longer continuous through the Coachella Valley and has been relinquished to the respective cities in the Cities of Cathedral City and Rancho Mirage; and WHEREAS, Route 74 serves as an urban arterial rather than a regional highway in Palm Desert; and WHEREAS, the City of Indian Wells is concurrently requesting to undertake maintenance, liability and control of Route 111 within its City limits; and WHEREAS, Section 71, 73 and 8330.5 of the State Streets and Highways Code provide for relinquishment and/or relocation of State Highway routes when found to be in the best interest of the State. BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Palm Desert, California, as follows: (1) The City of Palm Desert requests that the California Transportation Commission and Caltrans initiate and undertake all necessary studies, reviews, negotiations and other actions as required to relinquish Route 111 and Route 74 within the City limits of the City of Palm Desert subject to such repairs, improvements, indemnity and maintenance agreements as other consideration as approved by the City Council.
