HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 368u ORDINANCE NO. 368 ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, PERTAINING TO SMOKE DETECTORS. WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert is committed to the health and safety of its citizens and visitors; and WHEREAS, the National Fire Protection Association and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have endorsed the fire and life safety installation of approved early warning smoke detectors to protect life and property; and WHEREAS, the City of Palm Desert desires to lead the Coachella Valley in making Palm Desert the safest city in the Coachella Valley. NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Palm Desert, California, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN as follows: Section 1: That Section 15.16.150 be and the same is hereby added to the City of Palm Desert to read as follows: Section 10.307(a) of the Uniform Fire Code shall be amended to read "Apartments, Hotels/Motels and Dwellings". An approved automatic fire alarm system shall be installed in the following occupancies: (1) Apartment houses containing three or more sleeping room units. (2) Hotels/motels containing three or more sleeping rooms. (3) All sleeping rooms of all dwellings shall be protected by an U.L. approved local alarm smoke detector, operated by either battery or home wiring, at locations recommended by the National Fire Codes. Section 2: That Section 15.16.160 be and the same is hereby added to the Code of the City of Palm Desert to read as follows: Section ;0.301(a) is amended to delete "other than private dwellings". DJE29/7 7 Section 3: The City Clerk shall certify the passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once in the Palm Desert Post, a newspaper of general circulation, printed, published and circulated within the City of Palm Desert, and the same shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after its adoption.
