HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 496ORDINANCE NO. 496 1 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING CHAPTER 5.86, SECTION 5.86.020, SUBSECTION (M) AND SECTION 5.86.090, SUBSECTION (I) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA RELATING TO THE DEFINITION OF A RECOGNIZED SCHOOL. The City Council of the City of Palm Desert, California, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN, as follows: SECTION 1: Subsection (M) of Section 5.86.020. That subsection (M) of Section 5.86.020 is hereby amended to read as follows: A recognized school means any school or educational Institution licensed to do business as a school or educational institution in the state in which it is located, or any school recognized by a national organization whose purpose is to up grade the professionalism of massagists, and which has for its purpose the teaching of the theory, method, profession, or work of massage, which school requires a resident course of study not less than 500 hours before the student shall be furnished with a diploma or certificate of graduation from such school or institution of learning following successful completion of such course of study or learning. As an option to having the required 500 hours of training, the applicant has the option of either: (1) Membership in a national organization which requires at least 300 hours of study and must provide proof of continuing education of at least 24 hours annually until the required 500 hours of training is completed, or; ( 2 ) 100 hours of study and passing the County of Riverside Massage License Examination, and must provide proof of continuing education of at least 24 hours annually until the required 500 hours of training is completed. I SECTION 2: Subsection (I) of Section 5.86.090. That Subsection ( I ) of Section 5.86.090 is hereby amended to read as follows: Applicant must furnish a diploma or certificate of graduation from a recognized school or other institution of learning wherein the method, profession and work of massage is taught as defined in Section 5.86.020, Subsection (M). SECTION 3: Publication. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of th i s ord i nance and sha l 1 cause the same to be printed once in the Palm Desert Post, a newspaper of general circulation, printed, published and circulated in the City of Palm Desert, and this ordinance shall be In full force and effect thirty (30) days after its adoption.
