HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 651Sri, 0 Z U w GC ORDINANCE N0. 651 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION 10.36.010 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE RELATIVE TO ESTABLISHING NEW SPEED ZONES. WHEREAS, the California Vehicle Code allows local jurisdictions to establish speed zones on local streets; and WHEREAS, Section 515 of the California Vehicle Code defines "Residential District", in which a prima facie speed limit of 25 miles per hour can be designated if thirteen or more occupied separate dwelling units are on one side or sixteen or more on both sides are found; and WHEREAS, Sections 235 and 240 define "Business District" in which a prima facie speed limit of 25 miles per hour can be designated if Fifty percent or more of the contiguous property fronting thereon (for 600 feet) is occupied by buildings for use in business; and WHEREAS, the segments of roadway identified below meet the California Vehicle Code definition of either business or residential district; and WHEREAS, Traffic Engineering Speed Studies, as required, have been conducted and the need for new speed zones has been determined. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Palm Desert finds that all of the recitations are true and correct and do constitute the Findings and consideration of the Council in this case. Z 0 0 o o w in o FURTHER: (1) Section 10.36.010 of the Code of the City of Palm Desert, California, is hereby amended to read as follows: "10.36.010 Established. The following speed zones are established as follows: Miles Per Hour 25 Merle Drive West of Cook Street Velie Way Joni Drive Merle Drive East of Cook Street 35 42nd Avenue Sheryl Avenue East of Cook Street."
