AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING ORDINANCE 565,
CHAPTER 8.17, SECTION 8.17.010
OF THE PALM DESERT MUNICIPAL CODE REGULATING
THE COLLECTION OF RECYCLABLE MATERIALS
The City Council of the City of Palm Desert, California, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN, as
follows:
Section 1. That Chapter 8.17, Section 8.17.010 is hereby amended in the Code of
the City of Palm Desert, California, to read as follows:
Chapter 8.17 Recyclable Materials.
8.17.010 Definitions.
The following words and phrases shall be added to the list of existing definitions in
alphabetical order and apply in this chapter:
A. "Recyclables" are materials that are collected for intended reuse,
including, but not limited to, paper, chemical, glass, metal, plastic, green
waste, wood waste, and construction debris.
B. "Recycling" is the collection and processing of recyclables.
C. "Waste Materials" are materials not intended for reuse that are discarded
as useless or worthless and whose ultimate destination is a landfill or
other disposal site.
The following definition shall be modified and apply in this chapter:
A. "Recyclable materials," are materials which contain no less than 90% by
weight of recyclables, the remaining portion being waste materials.
Section 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Ordinance
and shall cause the same to be published once in the Desert Sun, a newspaper of
general circulation, circulated within the City of Palm Desert, and the same shall be
in full force and effect thirty (30) days after its adoption.
