Someone once said that I learned to read on the floor looking at blue prints, when blue prints were really blue! Following college and for the next 18 years, I worked in the family design and general construction firm in all phases of the operation. After the retirement of the principal partners, I continued in the field working for interior design and general construction firms doing both residential and commercial work. With these firms I was usually the Client Liaison and Project Manager, many times for multiple project running concurrently, and always taking an active part in the planning, developing, ordering and execution of the plan. Seven years ago I moved to Palm Desert and I am currently the project manager and owners representative for a 20,000 sq. ft. custom home with basement, being completed at Big Horn Golf Club. As the owners are from out of town, they wanted someone to take charge of the project to make sure what they were being billed for was being done, done per the design and done in a timely manner. This time I used my skills, best described as a team leader, as there are so many people in the loop, it takes one person (me) to make sure the right person was making the decision and not being passed from person to person, hoping someone would just make the decision. Between the architect, owner, builder, interior designer, landscape architect and those that just want to have impute, there can be a lot of confusion in a project of this size and scope. I believe I have the knowledge and understanding of architecture, design and construction to be a valuable asset to the Architectural Review Commission. Design and construction are my career and I would care about how a project meets the goals of Palm Desert and the vision of the property owners. Presently, my schedule is flexible as to attend meetings on Tuesday's at noon.
