His leadership skills and motivation are admirable and should not go unrecognized. He not only led the committee and the City of Palm Desert employees to raise $16,500.00 for the United Way, thus achieving platinum level, he also decreased the spending on the campaign budget from last year. Stephen also offered his and his 8-'/2 month pregnant wife Stephanie's support and participation to the 14th Annual Waiter Dinner. At the last minute, he was placed in the position of the waiter and to no surprise, his enthusiasm undeniably helped make the dinner a success. Stephen is a pleasure to work with and is always willing to help when needed. I find his everyday efforts, dedication and, timeless work ethic especially commendable. I believe him to be not only an asset to our Department, but to the City as a whole. For example, there were some problems noted on the plans with the wheel chair ramp. Mike noticed this and assumed the responsibility of resolving the issue in the field, versus a costly change order. Not only did this save everyone time, it saved the City money! Div Nominating Employee Sheila Gilligan Reason for nominating employee: The Portola Community Center was in need of an additional kitchen area for one of the conference rooms. Community Services Division went out to bid; the lowest proposal was for approximately $14,000. Mr. Flint offered to complete the task himself. He did so at a cost of about $4,000 by going to Home Depot for the sink & cabinets, providing the labor, and only using outside help from a plumber and an electrician ... cost of which was minimal. The tenants of the Center and the groups who use the facilities are most appreciative. Community Services Division and the Finance Director are all well impressed. CITY OF PALM DESERT EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION NOMINATION FORM Date: March 12, 2004 Nominee: Benjamin Druyon Nominating Department: Community Services Div. Nominating Emplo ,e QSheil 'lli an & Pat Conlon - L, Reason for nominating employee: Many of us have had the pleasure of observing Ben as he deals with the general public for business licenses. He is always calm, extremely cooperative, and treats the individual he is assisting as if that person is the most important person to walk into City Hall that day. Business License issues can often be contentious. However, they don't reach that level because of the professional way in which Ben handles them. Mr. Druyon displays a level of commitment and dedication to his position that should be recognized. He represents the City very well and is a role model in our customer service efforts. CITY OF PALM DESERT EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION NOMINATION FORM Date: 3/3/04 Nominee: James Bounds Nominating Department: Finance Nominating Employee Paul S. Gibson/Jose Luis Espinoza Reason for nominating employee: The last month or so we have had several employee sick or go on vacation which left us short staff. James has filled in for Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Cash Receipts. He has also, helped put the General Plan and Audit Report on the City's web -site. We would like to nominate James because we beleive that when we needed help, he filled in the gaps. ORTEGA, CITY MANAGER FROM: TERESA L. LA ROCCA, DIRECTOR OF HOU DATE: MARCH 4, 2004 SUBJECT: EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION AWARDS I would like to nominate Patty Leon and Janet Moore for an employee recognition award as a result of their ongoing dedication and commitment to the community in sharing and carrying out the goals of the Housing Division. Recently, I was scheduled to give a presentation to the volunteers for Shelter from the Storm during their 2004 volunteer training session. As a result of a family emergency, I was unable to be there. In my absence and at the very last moment, both Patty and Janet jumped in and volunteered to make the presentation without the benefit of preparing in advance. The comments I received back from the Shelter's administration were complimentary and extremely positive. The closing comments in the thank you letter states as follows, "please know that you are helping to make a difference in the lives of abused women and children we serve." I think this says it all. Jose's responsibilities, as defined, were to simply provide clean up and policing of the pavilion where the picnic was taking place. In addition to carrying out his assigned duties with no supervision or direction, Jose assisted in setting up the event, worked with staff at CV Rec to arrange for pick up of borrowed equipment, helped arrange needed supplies, etc. Above and beyond does not begin to describe how helpful Jose was in transporting guests from the parking lot to their vehicles who needed assistance, including setting up, tearing down, and transporting wheelchairs, walkers, etc. His kindness and patience with elderly guests made their day and several members of the Historical Society board requested that Jose be recognized for his outstanding service in all areas of the picnic. Without his assistance, the event would not have been the success that it was.
