Discussion:
Staff requested to go out to bid at the City Council meeting of September 11, 2003. The Notice Inviting
Bids for the design/build or design/fabrication of the City bus shelters was advertised January 12, 2004,
with a deadline of February 13, 2004. No bids were received.
The City requested bids for the design and construction/fabrication of at least four (4) bus shelters to be
located along Hwy 111 in an amount not to exceed $100,000. Staff believes that the available budget of
$100,000 was not sufficient for a licensed architect and general contractor to bid, and companies that
specialize in the design and fabrication generally work on an individual negotiation basis. Since no bids
were received, staff would like to negotiate with an individual firm to design and fabricate the required bus
shelters. There are companies that specialize in the custom design and fabrication of bus shelters, and
that should be able to provide the City with the required numbers of bus shelters within the allotted
budget.
Staff is therefore requesting that City Council authorize staff to negotiate with a firm that specializes in the
design and fabrication of bus shelters.
