Attached is a list of employees that will be recognized at the City Council meeting. A
memorandum has been sent to each recipient congratulating them and requesting their
attendance.
Each one will be recognized for their own individual achievement and a gift card will be
awarded to them.

Subject: Busted Award
Mike during the current resurfacing program we have had the opportunity to use Sergio
Rosas from the Corporation Yard to augment our staffing. He has proved diligent,
conscientious, and has demonstrated repeatedly his spirit of cooperation. He has gone
above the rim to insure a quality and cooperative job, for the City of Palm Desert, while
continuing a report with the contractor.
In addition, our entire inspection staff, Ahmad Karimi, Mike Brown, Ed Gallardo, and
Terry Cechin, have shown exemplary effort in working together as a team, keeping daily
operations running smoothly, while accommodating night work performed on major
arterials for the benefit of the citizens of our community. The willingness of these
individuals to regularly adapt to these situations continues to keep the City of Palm
Desert one head above the average.
I am recommending them for a "Busted Award", as their efforts exemplify the type of
employee this City is proud to have.

PRELIMINARY GRADING PLAN FOR A
PROPOSED PROJECT
On June 29, 20041 transmitted to Phil Joy a preliminary grading plan for the
Sacred Heart Church and School expansion Master Plan (CUP 04-13) for Public
Works Department review and comment.
I was pleasantly surprised when later the same day Phil Joy came to my office
and told me that he had completed his review of the preliminary grading plan and
delivered a memorandum with comments.
I did not expect such a quick turn -around from Public Works Department staff
since I know that department has a large caseload. Normally Planning staff gives
other departments one to two weeks time to review plans since every
Development Services Division department is very busy handling many cases
and answering telephone and counter inquiries.
Phil Joy's prompt review of the Sacred Heart Master Plan preliminary grading
plan is an example of exemplary customer service above and beyond the call of
normal duty.
I faxed the Public Works memorandum on the preliminary grading plan to the
project architect and was later told by Holt Architects that Father Lincoln at the
Sacred Heart Church will truly appreciate the City's quick review of the

Marisol Lopez, Office Assistant in the Building and Safety Department
accepted responsibility for a special project for the Department to
prepare and index five (5) years of closed code cases (1997 through
2001). These records were in file storage boxes in the Public Works
storage area, and when staff needed to retrieve records they had to
move and/or dig through multiple boxes.
Over the past 12 months, in addition to her regularly scheduled work,
Marisol has diligently prepared and indexed over 36,000 records to be
scanned to CD's. As a result of Marisol's perseverance and hard
work, the City has realized the following benefits:
• Records can be accessed on computer for ease of reference.
• Records are in a safe, permanent form and will not be lost in the
event of a disaster.
• Records are no longer taking up storage space.
• A records management system has been implemented to
continue digitizing these permanent and sensitive records.

Staff members have received compliments from Cora Constructors
and PACE on Claudia's courteous and helpful manner. They were
very impressed on how she handled their phone calls. John Osborne,
our real estate agent at Desert Rose, was in the office yesterday to
meet with Janet and made it a point to ask her who the receptionist
was. He told Janet that Claudia is always extremely nice and helpful,
and that it is always a pleasure to come in to our offices with her at
the front desk. We have also received complimentary comments
from City staff and the public. Claudia always greets persons with a
friendly smile.
